The School of Mathematics and Statistics, Wuhan University of Technology is a member of the Chinese Mathematical Society and the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Wuhan University of Technology was formed through the merger of Wuhan Institute of Technology, Wuhan Institute of Communications and Wuhan Institute of Automotive Technology in 2000. The School of Science was established in 2001 with the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Statistics. The Mathematics Research Centre was set up in 2016. The the School of Mathematics and Statistics was founded by merging the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Statistics and the Mathematics Research Centre in June 2024.

Located at the South District, South Lake Campus of Wuhan University of Technology, the School of Mathematics and Statistics consists of the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Statistics and the Mathematics Research Centre. There are two undergraduate majors, namely, Information and Computing Science, the first batch of national first-class undergraduate major development site, and Statistics, Hubei provincial first-class undergraduate major development site, and the “Science and Education IntegrationExperimental Class in Applied Mathematics jointly established with the Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The school has the Mathematics doctoral degree program in the first level disciples and the Mathematics postdoctoral research station, as well as the Mathematics master's degree program in the first level disciplines, the Statistics master's degree program in the first level discipline program and the master's degree program in Applied Statistics. At present, it has over 700 undergraduates and over 260 master and doctoral students.

The school has research bases such as the Mathematics Research Centre and the Modelling, Simulation and Intelligent Control Research Centre. As a major member, it participated in the construction of the National Tianyuan Mathematics Central Centre in 2019. It was approved to set up the Wuhan University of Technology Branch, National Applied Mathematics Centre in Hubei Province in 2020. In 2023, it successfully hosted the 2022 Chinese Mathematical Society Academic Annual Conference, attended by 14 academicians and over 1,200 members, which was widely reported by more than ten national media outlets.

The school has 115 full-time teachers, including 27 professors and 51 associate professors. Among the faculty, two are in the national talent programme, three are in provincial talent programme, one is a national outstanding teacher and one is a provincial teaching master. In addition, there is one selected in the Pioneer Hundred Talents Program of  the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one obtaining Advanced Individual in the First National Textbook Development, one granted as the expert in the Hubei Provincial Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Experts Program, one winning the Chutian Outstanding Teacher Award in Hubei Province, one gaining the second in the National Natural Science Award, four granted as the national outstanding teachers in Mathematical Modelling and two acquiring the second place in Teaching Competition for Young Teachers in Hubei Province. The school has also been approved as the Hubei Provincial Higher Education Teaching Team and the Outstanding Basic Teaching Organization in Hubei Province.

In terms of teaching achievements, the school has three national first-class courses, one national quality course, one national quality resource-sharing course, one national quality video open course, two online open courses of the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Professional Engineering Degree, two courses of the Brand Course Taught in English for International Students in Hubei Province and four provincial first-class courses. It has published three national planning textbooks and obtained one Second Prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award and thirteen prizes of the Hubei Provincial Teaching Achievement Award.

The school has a solid academic foundation, covering four main disciplines: Fundamental Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research and Control Theory, and Probability and Mathematical Statistics, with the dominant researches of Nonlinear Functional Analysis, Partial Differential Equations and Statistical Prediction and Decision Making”, and the distinctive features in the cross-disciplinary application research in the fields of transportation, materials, information and the needs of the social and economic development. In the fifth round of discipline assessment, its Mathematics discipline was ranked B−, the Soft Science Mathematics was listed the top 30% and the Statistics was listed the top 40%. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the faculty have undertaken 65 National Natural Science Fund projects, including one key project and one major research project. All those research results have been published in internationally renowned academic journals such as Adv. Math., TAMS, IUMJ, JMPA, ARMA, AIHP−AN, JFA and SIAM−MA. In addition, the school has obtained one Second Prize and one Third Prize of Hubei Provincial Natural Science Award.

With a rigorous teaching style and excellent academic atmosphere, the school encourages students to actively participate in science and technology innovation activities and various competitions through platforms such as the Mathematical Starry Sky”, the College Student Science and Technology Cultural Festival, and Mathematical Modelling Competitions. Students have achieved outstanding results in Domestic and International Mathematical Modelling Competition, National College Students Mathematics Competition, National College Students Market Analysis and Research Competition and National College Students English Competition, winning national special prizes and first prizes, which demonstrates their exceptional talent.
