On March 28th, the 596th Lecture of the University and 3rd Nanhu Forum of the Division of Science was held in the 108 Lecture Hall of the Mathematics Building. Professor Tao Tang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the European Academy of Sciences, academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, and President of Guangzhou Southern University, brought an academic lecture entitled “Mathematics Promotes Modern Science and Technology” to the attendees. Sijin Xin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, and Academician Baolian Su, Director of the Division of Science, attended the forum, along with more than 200 representatives of teachers and students of the School of Mathematics and Statistics.

Secretary Sijin Xin presented a commemorative certificate of Nanhu Forum to Academician Tao Tang, and Academician Baolian Su introduced Academician Tang's work experience and academic achievements to the teachers and students present.

At the meeting, Academician Tao Tang started with "Huawei attaches great importance to mathematics" and shared his scientific research experience. He encouraged young students to lay a good foundation in mathematics and feel the beauty of mathematics, which aroused enthusiastic responses. Through cases such as Shannon's Theorem, he vividly demonstrated the core role of mathematical theory in the fields of the Internet, communications, medical imaging, and AI, and discussed the nature of mathematical research and important breakthroughs in China. He emphasized the key value of mathematics to scientific and technological innovation, as well as the country's new requirements for scientific and technological talents in the context of high-quality development.
In the interactive exchange session, Academician Tao Tang patiently answered the questions. The participants said that the lecture not only broadened their academic horizons, but also stimulated their in-depth thinking about the integration of mathematics and technology.
