On November 5th, The Lectures of the University and first Nanhu Forum of the Division of Science was held in Conference Center 201, and Xiangyu Zhou, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, and researcher of the Institute of Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to give an academic lecture. Academician Baolian Su, Director of the Division of Science, Huansong Zhou, Chief Professor of Mathematics, attended the lecture, along with leaders and representatives of teachers and students of the School of Mathematics.  The lecture was undertaken by the School of Mathematics and Statistics.

Before the lecture began, in the countdown with cheers of all the teachers and students present, Academician Xiangyu Zhou and Academician Baolian Su jointly pressed the start ball to officially open the Nanhu Forum of the Division of Science. Initiated by Academician Baolian Su and sponsored by the Faculty of Science, the Nanhu Forum of the Division of Science takes high-level and high-grade academic reports and cultural quality education reports as the main carriers to further enhance the scientific awareness and academic spirits of teachers and students.

As the first Nanhu Forum of the Division of Science, Academician Xiangyu Zhou brought us a wonderful lecture entitled “Starting from the Magic of the Spring Festival Gala”. Mr. Zhou started the lecture with the Spring Festival Gala poker magic game, invited the teachers and students to the stage to interact, and opened the lecture in a life-like and interesting way, leading the teachers and students to enter the world of ancient Chinese mathematical problems and experience an extraordinary journey of magic and calculation. He pointed out that behind the wonderful magic was the magic of mathematics, which involves the congruence ideas and theories created in ancient China, including the problem of “Not knowing the number of things”, the solution of the “miraculous calculation” and the Chinese surplus theorem. He added that ancient Chinese mathematics reviewed deep ideas with fewer words and that the ancient Chinese mathematical ideas and achievements had restored Shang Gao's proof of the general Pythagorean theorem, and revealed the his “folding moment” principle, “product moment” thought and Shang Gao-Zhao Shuang's “form invariant” thought.

In the questioning part, Mr. Zhou interacted enthusiastically with the teachers and students on the spot, patiently answered their questions, and encouraged young students to be full of love and perseverance, expand their professional horizons, and maintain their curiosity and desire to explore professional knowledge.
